Phillippe does a cracking job with his arrangements. They are spot on for big band. Great delivery and such a nice guy. All the best. David

Great job on producing such a modern thinking website.
Great prices and great choices of repertoire.
Doing much in the way of arranging myself I would rather pay the competitive prices on your website than spend the time myself transcribing the varied selection you have. I am hoping that you will transpose many of the Sax quartet arrangements for clarinet quartet as I run both and need your cool arrangements. All the best.

We downloaded 3 sax trios this morning to play with a friend. The system worked very well and we got the music very quickly. Great music too! Witty, inventive arrangements of Take 5, Villa Lobos and Hello Dolly. We\'ll enjoy these for years to come. Thanks a lot

My group has really enjoyed your sax quartets! Can you tell me if you plan on doing a version of Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson? Do you know where I could find one?

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Love using your site as a source for my student saxophone quartets at school!! Any chance of making a lot of these quartets available for clarinets as well. My clarinet students are jealous that the saxophones are getting all the good pieces!! Thanks guys!

Dear Bernard & Philippe,

Just another quick note in your guest book to say thanks, yet again, for all your great arrangements through 2011 and previously. It's not only your excellent arrangements which elevate your website to a standard to which all others should aspire, but it's the way you always have the players in mind, such as the ossia you so thoughfully provide at bar 46 of Days Of Wine And Roses, (for which our sop player is enternally grateful!!).

The four of us look forward to another great year here on the 4a4 website, and wish you both another inspired and fruitful 2012.

Congratulations on your site from which i have purchased many arrangements.
Could i suggest you turn your arranging talents to some of the works of Ennio Morricone? I can think of many that would suit the sax quartet format well, for example 'Cinema Paradiso'.
Thank you.

I really enjoy the sax quartet arrangements. I bought some, and my son will be playing them with his quartet. I like "Crazy Fifth"; however, I hope you provide in the future a "non-crazy" Grade 7-8 arrangement of the Fifth. Again, excellent job with the arragements.

We have a Sax octet - 1 Baritone - 2 Tenors - 5 Alto/Sop. We do concerts for charity and would very much appreciate more music for this combination - I believe we have bought all that there is on your site and used it successfully in our concert programmes. We are all players of considerable experience so are happy to try more demanding works - is there any more music for this combination being composed by 4 a 4?

Many thanks - Louise Toomer

Hello again Philippe and Bernard. Now that you've had a nice relaxing break you'll be eager to get back to work providing us all with lots of new quartet music. Just in case you're stuck for ideas, I thought I'd help you out with some titles my quartet has been asked to play over the last year but we haven't got and can't find scored for sax quartet.

Laura
Deep Purple
The Lady Is A Tramp
Once In A While

We'd love to add these to our repertoire, so if you could just knock them out by, say, May or June we'd be delighted :-)

Here's wishing everyone a t 4a4 happy, successful and most of all productive 2011 - thanks for everything.

Hi all. This just to say thanks to all the guys at 4x4, and to wish you a relaxing break over Christmas and the new year. At the Manx Saxophone Ensemble (www.saxband.co.uk) we rely heavily on 4x4 tunes in bulding our repertoire. Good quality arrangements, sometimes quirky, always fun ! ... and thanks too for the free Chriatmas tune - which will undoubtedly find it's way into next year's busking repertoire. Cheers, Jem

Thanks for your truly excellent arrangements Philippe. Ours is not a regular quartet, but we get together from time to time as and when one of us is asked privately to provide some music for an event or function and your arrangements are just perfect for this. We don't always have a bari though and are often SAAT. So I have to confess to occasionally transposing your tenor and bari parts for alto and tenor which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, (OK you can stick the pins in the effigy now !!) Can I add to the list of requests please - Lui Prima's 1963 classic 'Sing, Sing, Sing' is one of the defining numbers of the big band era, but I'm certain that a quartet arrangement of it in your inimitable style would capture the big band feel of that classic swing number and we would love to add it to our Pilippe Marillia collection. Kind regards and best wishes, Peter, UK

Some great arrangements for both sax ensemble and Big Band. Have just bought "B Rhapsody" for sax quartet and my school group love it. It's great to be able to download it in the evening and be rehearsing it the next day! Thanks for the optional alto part for the soprano line. I wish other publishers would do this.

I run two school Big Bands, one a training band. Could we have a few more grade 1-3 Big Band arrangements that are in the swing feel for the young ones please! Seems to be a lot of straight quaver charts.

Thanks

I have been a fan of your arrangements for years. Every year seems to get better. We especially like Moolight Serenade (I am teasing you on your spelling) We had a good laugh as we thought it was a new version for Bovin Romances....he heh. great version by the way. the chording is fantastic!

The more swing tunes the better. If I were to make a suggestion it would be "Tippin in" or "One O'clock Jump".
We can't wait to see what you do next.

It is still a great site, but it is a dissapointment to know that the music isnt free anymore. Although the price is not high (for European standards), it becomes unaccesible to some people who live in 3 world countries.

4a4 response:
You are right and we regret that badly disposed people have downloaded freely our scores in order to resell them on their own websites. Then, we had the choice either to close our site or to ask for a contribution for each download. Our aim is not to earn money with our scores and this is why prices are near €0.95€/part. For this price, we also try to offer an accompaniment in mp3 format so that each musician can practice his part while listening to those of the others. The new free service "mp3 for practice with your iPod" is now available. We'll see if it is an interesting feature for musician and we'll develop it as possible as we can, even if it will be necessary for us to pay our website provider for more disk space and more bandwidth (mp3 files are hugely bigger than pdf files and we have -it's a good surprise - a lot of visitor at 4a4quartet.com)

A member of our quartet (Northeast Texas Saxophone Quartet) found your excellent website. We started with Looney Tunes and West Side Story and are reading others. Great work and thanks! Two side notes: One to Pavel, who referred us in his posting to the recording of the Jerusalem Saxophone Quartet. Thank you for that! In the last movement, I noticed the group shouted the word "Mambo" or something to that effect. It's been a long time since I saw West Side Story and if you read this, please confirm what the word is. I like it, and I assume it is true to the original. Second, I confess we edited Looney Tunes a bit. Having grown up watching Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and friends, we changed the rhythm and phrasing in the 9th and 10th and the 13th and 14th measures after E. Instead of straight eighth notes, we made them dotted eighth followed by sixteenths, and slurred them to the first eighth note in the following measure. Also, we switched the final long note between the soprano and alto parts so that the final concert F (fifth of the chord) is played by the soprano and the root (tonic) is played by the alto. Seems to work better. I hope you don't mind! Keep up the great work and thanks again!
